2 Kinds of Death
Matthew 8:22
And Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead.”
Intro:
Some people are as good as dead. Their lives show it. Are you one of them?
Body
Matthew 8.22 says And Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead.”
There are two kinds of being dead mentioned here.
One is physically dead, the body and the spirit have separated.
The other is a spiritual death.
When Jesus said, “leave the dead” to do the job of burying the physical dead. So what he was talking about was a different set of people. These might as well be dead spiritually because of their continuous poor choices.
Those making wrong decisions are missing out on the great things about life, especially the enhanced life of Jesus-disciple.
For example, when they get up in the mornings, their day looks like a drudgery of boring work with unhappy co-workers, returning home to noisy, fuzzy disobedient kids and a wife that is always complaining about something.
They are missing out on the joy
They can’t seem to get happiness and keep it.
They have no concept of what contentment could be
And peace. No. There is always hate and anger.
They fight against anxiety and depression.
They do not see the possibility of being forgiving, much less being forgiven. They think that a fresh start in life is being unrealistic, a fantasy.
Occasionally the thought crosses their mind that ending of life is a way of escape from this torture.
If they ever thought about eternity, well, that is every worse. All they can see coming is hell, which is just an extension of what they are in now.
Does this remotely sound familiar?
