New Years 2022

INTRO

Kick off a better life in 2022. Follow these 3 principles.

These 3 principles all begin with the letter “P”.

1. Please God 1 Thess. 4.1-8
   1. Do more and more to please God v 1
      1. 1 Thessalonians 4:1 ESV  Finally, then, brothers, we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God, just as you are doing, that you do so more and more.
   2. No sexual immorality v3
      1. 1 Thessalonians 4:3 ESV  For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality;
   3. Be self-controlled v4
      1. 1 Thessalonians 4:4 ESV  that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor,
   4. No lusts v5
      1. 1 Thessalonians 4:5 ESV  not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God;
   5. Do not hurt others v6
      1. 1 Thessalonians 4:6 ESV  that no one transgress and wrong his brother in this matter, because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as we told you beforehand and solemnly warned you.
   6. Be pure v7
      1. 1 Thessalonians 4:7 ESV  For God has not called us for impurity, but in holiness.
   7. Pursue a Quiet Life V 9-12
      1. Quite Life described:
         1. Not about a non-vocal life, a noiseless life, but a God-centered, determined life
            1. A simple life
            2. w/o personal glory
            3. w/o getting the attention for ourselves.
         2. Mind your own business. V11
            1. 1 Thessalonians 4:11 ESV  and to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you,
            2. No gossip

• No busybody
  1. 1Pe_4:15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.

1. Work with your hands. V11
   1. 1 Thessalonians 4:11 ESV  and to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you,
   2. God-centered people are Not lazy

• May be currently unemployed, but are not “holding out” for that easy, high-paying job.
  1. To a Christian, any job is better than no job because it honors God’s wishes.

3. Work properly
   1. 1 Thessalonians 4:11 ESV  and to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you,
   2. Honest day’s pay for an honest days’ work.
      1. Colossians 3:23 ESV Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,
   3. Review Princples:
      1. Please God
      2. Pursue a Quite Life
4. Prepare to Meet the Lord V13-18
   1. Do not want you to be ignorant V13
      1. 1 Thessalonians 4:13 ESV  But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope.
      2. We are not talking about someone being stupid

• We are talking about being uneducated about God

1. Jesus died & rose again V14
   1. 1 Thessalonians 4:14 ESV  For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.
   2. Are you living like his death & resurrection has an impact?

• Does His death & resurrection affect how you live? It must.

1. You don’t know when He is returning.
2. You must Prepare to Meet the Lord.
3. The entire world will be aware of His arrival. V16
   1. 1 Thessalonians 4:16 ESV  For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.
   2. Jesus is not going to slip back onto earth and steal away select people.

• ALL will know

1. ALL will hear the Cry of command (a great Shout)
2. ALL will hear the Voice of archangel
3. ALL will hear the Trumpet of God

1. We will soar in air toward Jesus. (v17 reference only)
2. So Christians will be with God forever v17
   1. 1 Thessalonians 4:17 ESV  Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.
   2. Those who believe and live based on Jesus being God’s Son (Matt 10.32)

• Those who repent, change their lives. (Acts 17.30)

1. Those who keep pledging allegiance to Jesus (Rom 10:9-10)
2. Those who have been immersed to wash away their sins. (Acts 22:16)

1. Are you ready??

   1. Please God
      1. Do these steps we just mentioned 1^st.
   2. Pursue a Quite Life

4. Following these 3 principles will give you a better life in 2022 and a shot at eternity with God.
