Jesus’ Authority

So many religions with so many people saying so many things. Each think they are right. How do you know which one IS right? Should you be listening to your priest, or reverend, your preacher?

Wouldn’t it be great if there was a simpler way to get to heaven?

Today, we will show you a much cleaner, easier, simpler way that is ALWAYS right.

INTRO

To clean up the confusion and to make things simpler, we need a good starting point. Found at the end of the Sermon on the Mount. (Check out the series on TimelessTalks.Net).

This is at the end of Sermon on the Mount. Jesus had spent 3 chapters telling people what God wants and expects. Let’s just read. Matthew 7:28-29  And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching,  (29)  for he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.”

Jesus cleaned up the confusion about different religious subjects. Mention some controversial subjects like adultery, divorce, etc. How did he wash away the mis-information of his day and our day, all those inaccuracies?

He did it by own personal possession of authority. It was so obvious that common folk noticed it.

In his day, the best a scribe could do was to refer to other notable teachers. They themselves did not have/possess authority.

NO MAN HAS ANY RELIGIOUS AUTHORITY. Jesus has it all. Matthew 28:18  And Jesus came and said to them, “ALL AUTHORITY in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”

No man (Pope/priest/Rev/”Bishop”) has the right to take mandate any rule on others. Whatever Jesus and his apostles have given us in the Bible is the mandate.

This is much simpler, cleaner. What Jesus and his apostles said is less confusing, and with ALL the authority.

What does the Bible, not men, say about authority?

Isaiah 55:8-9  For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD.  (9)  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Matthew 9:5-6  For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise and walk’?  (6)  But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he then said to the paralytic—“Rise, pick up your bed and go home.”

Matthew 21:23-27  And when he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him as he was teaching, and said, “By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?”  (24)  Jesus answered them, “I also will ask you one question, and if you tell me the answer, then I also will tell you by what authority I do these things.  (25)  The baptism of John, from where did it come? From heaven or from man?” And they discussed it among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say to us, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’  (26)  But if we say, ‘From man,’ we are afraid of the crowd, for they all hold that John was a prophet.”  (27)  So they answered Jesus, “We do not know.” And he said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

Ephesians 1:20-21  that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places,  (21)  far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.

Wouldn’t it be better to listen and obey Jesus, and not worry about what the organization thinks?

John 14:6; paraphrase

John 12:47-48  If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world.  (48)  The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day.

Hebrews 1:1-3  Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets,  (2)  but in these last days he has spoken to us BY HIS SON, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.  (3)  He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the WORD OF HIS POWER. …
