Jesus Exorcist

Jesus encountered an unclean spirit and exorcised it from the man.

But before he did, the spirit displayed a high level of knowledge about Jesus. It is a level that every person needs to attain. And you can. I will tell you how.

Plus, if you watch to the end, you will get an opportunity to get a free e-booklet.

Now, about that spirit….

Intro

Jesus enters the synagogue on this Sabbath and begins to teach.

Everyone was amazed at his teaching. He was not like the other teachers, quoting former noted religious scholars. He taught them like one who genuinely knew their situations and the Old Testament scriptures that applied.

Then a man entered the synagogue. Nothing appears, at first, to be out of the ordinary. He was coming to learn from Jesus, just like everyone else. But this man had a unique problem. Mark’s account (Mark 1:21-27) tells us that Inside him was an unclean spirit.

When the unclean spirit saw Jesus, it screamed out! Why would an unclean spirit scream? It asked Jesus, Mark 1:24  “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth?…” The unclean spirit is asking, “What are you going to do to us?”

Then it said, “Mark 1:24  … Have you come to destroy us? …” This spirit knew a great deal about the power of Jesus. This spirit recognized who was more powerful. Jesus was capable of destroying the spirit.

Then the most impressive admission any spirit can make. This spirit confessed Jesus. “Mark 1:24  “…I know who you are—the Holy One of God.”

This is something Jesus NEVER, NEVER allowed. He would not allow a spirit to reveal who he was. Jesus wants men to determine who he was based on evidence, not on any spirit, and especially from a bad spirit.

Jesus rebuked him, literally told him to “muzzle it”, and told him to come out of this God-seeking man.

The spirit resisted but did come out.

Jesus had just exorcised this spirit.

Now, everyone in the synagogue was now doubly amazed. First, a man that taught with authority, and second, he can command unclean spirits. And those spirits obeyed him.

Every person needs to examine Jesus.

You need to determine who he is based on evidence. The evidence, in this scripture, says Jesus is capable of exorcising unclean, unwilling spirits.

Now, brace yourselves. Let’s do a tough, pointed comparison between you and the evil spirit.

The evil spirit recognized the authority and power of Jesus quickly. Do you?

The spirit heard the command of Jesus and obeyed immediately. Have you?

Jesus tells you in John 8:24  “I told you that you would die in your sins, for unless you BELIEVE that I am he you will die in your sins.” The spirit believed. Do You?

Jesus commanded you to change your ways to be like him. The Bible’s word is ‘repent’. Luke 13:3  “No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.” You have been given a chance the spirit was not given. What will you do?

Jesus says you must publicly acknowledge your belief in him. Matthew 10:32-33 says, ” So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven,  (33)  but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.”

Any person who does not positively, publicly proclaim him is denying him.

Have you acknowledged him, or denied him?

Jesus has authority. It was recognized by the unclean spirit AND the people he taught.

Jesus tells everyone to be immersed to have their sins removed and be saved. Mark 16:16 says, ” Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.”

You have been given an opportunity to be saved. Will you be as obedient as an unclean spirit, or will you be defiant? The choice is totally yours. And the results are totally yours, too.
