Where do you go to get your life-lessons? What are your sources? Who are you listening to?

BODY

Questions

  • We asked about your sources for gaining life-lessons, also known as wisdom.
    • Life lessons are learned through listening and watching.
    • And selecting your sources is extremely important.
    • Who you listen to can determine your happiness, contentment, and your eternity.
  • You can learn Life-Lessons by Listening to your parents.
    • Proverbs 1:8-9 ESV  Hear, my son, your father’s instruction, and forsake not your mother’s teaching,  (9)  for they are a graceful garland for your head and pendants for your neck.
    • Proverbs 3:1-2 ESV  My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments,  (2)  for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you.
    • Proverbs 4:1-2 ESV  Hear, O sons, a father’s instruction, and be attentive, that you may gain insight,  (2)  for I give you good precepts; do not forsake my teaching.
    • The book of Proverbs has several others we can send to you.
    • If they are good parents, they can tell you / demonstrate what is right
    • If they are less-than-good parents, they can tell you what does not work, or show you failures.
  • To get good life-lessons you must Listen to everyone, but do so with GREAT CARE.
    • Everyone has life experiences.
    • Everyone should learn from their successes and their failures.
    • But just because you know them does not mean their information will be 1st Class and good for you.
    • Whatever they tell you, sift carefully.
    • Be respectful of everyone, but Use very little from this source.
  • To profit from life-lessons you got to Listen to yourself.
    • Not your own thinking, but remembering what you learned.
      • Your own thinking can be flawed
      • Proverbs 3:5 ESV  Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
    • Listen, as in remember what you have been paying attention to.
      • Proverbs 8:33 ESV  Hear instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it.
    • This information can prove valuable later.
    • If you recall what you have observed, you can use it to:
      • Improve your conditions
      • Avoid serious problems
  • We have saved the most important source of life-lessons till the end.
    • All the other sources can help you develop your “street smarts”
    • BUT this source is the best source of all.
    • Attention should be given to it 1st
      • It should have priority
    • All the other sources, including parents, cousins, friends, and even yourself needs to be filtered through this most important source
    • Everyone should Listen to God first.
      • This one can help your “soul smarts
      • His instructions are based on a higher level of thinking than anyone else
      • Isaiah 55:6-9 ESV  “Seek the LORD while he may be found; call upon him while he is near;  (7)  let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.  (8)  For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD.  (9)  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
    • HIS ways always work
      • Always wise
      • Always helpful
      • Always the perfect guide
      • His writings are the “owners manual” for every life situation
      • 2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV  All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,  (17)  that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
