Freedom from Death, Rom 8
Romans 8:2 ESV For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.
Romans 8:10 ESV But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
Romans 8:11 ESV If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.
Romans 8:13 ESV For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
These flags are symbols of many young men dying to get this country free and to keep it free.
And one of the freedoms they have bought us allows me to ask you the question “Do you want freedom from death?
You need to watch this.
The OT was quite clear about the relationship between sin and death.
- “The soul that sinneth, it will die.” Ezekiel 18.20
The NT is equally clear about the sin and death.
- We read in the video Freedom from Sin that the “wages of sin is death”. Rom 6.23
But Romans 8 has some wonderful things to consider.
- Romans 8:2 ESV For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.
This raises the possibility that we don’t have to die. That eternal life can be ours.
- Romans 8:13 ESV For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
- All I have to do is:
- Be living by the Spirit
- Be putting to death the deeds of the body.
- All I have to do is:
But how do I begin living by the Spirit?
- Mark 16:16 ESV Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
- Romans 10:10 ESV For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
- Acts 2:38 ESV And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
- The 1st word out of Peter’s mouth was REPENT; to change; to “put to death the deeds of the body”
- The 2nd thing was baptism; immersion in water
- We do this so God can forgive our sins
- The 3rd thing was that those who have believed, repented, confessed and been baptized received the indwelling Holy Spirit.
- So, that is HOW you get the Holy Spirit
- He will help us remember the scriptures we have studied and read
- He will do this to help us stay saved..
Now, your eternal life is as good as if it has already started.
- John 3:36 ESV Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
- He has acted on what he believes.
- HAS is present tense
- And note that last phrase, wrath of God. You need to watch Freedom from Wrath in this series.
- The same idea is also given in John 5:24 ESV Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
- Romans 2:7 ESV to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life;
- Romans 6:23 ESV For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
