WHAT Do You Serve?

 

What is important to you? What are your treasures? Where are they? What about this putting your treasures in heaven, and this serving two masters?

INTRO

Jesus said, “Matt 6:19-24 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

He also said, in verse 24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.”

Here is a news flash for you! There are some things in this world that just don’t work.

You have never considered that before have you? (laugh) Of course you have.

So, What does not work?

Credit cards and inflation. Sometimes it is called “Plastic money”. And it is very simple and easy. You go to the gas station and fill up your tank using the Card. And then the grocery store. And then the shoe store. And next the mechanic. And then Lowes or Home Depot. It is so easy. Just hand them the card. But we forget that we will pay back the full amount PLUS 25-30 % more. It seems to takes more money than what we make.

Another thing that does not work is TVs, and tablets, laptops, and cell phones. You say to me, Yeah, they work just fine”. And I agree, they do work very well. UNTIL a man or woman craving their drugs breaks into your home and steals everything. They will sell it for a few dollars and run to their dealer. Then they don’t work.

And it is quite amazing. That wonderful, stunning, very expensive vehicle is either going to wear out, be in an accident, or rust away.

Hoarding is not good either. It can become a health hazard, or a fire hazard. And the value of the objects will continue to decrease.

And to make things complete, Jesus said you are not able to serve 2 masters. You can’t serve self (with all its glorious, fun interests) and God at the same time. You CAN commit to one or the other.

James wrote, “James 4:4 Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.” So, How well is it going to turn out for you if you are God’s enemy?

Make a better choice right now. Trust God instead of stuff. John wrote, “1 John 2:15  Do not love the world or the THINGS in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”
