Voices in Heaven

  • Matt 3.16-17 And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; (17) and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
  • Mark 1.11 And a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”
  • John 12.28 Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven: “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again
  • 2 Pet 1.18 we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain

Not Under Discussion

Not talking about the skies, clouds, atmosphere

  • Matthew 26:64 Jesus said to him, “You have said so. But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
  • 2 Cor 12.2 I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows.

Not talking about the planets, moon, stars, space.

  • Hebrews 11:12 Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born descendants as many as the stars of heaven and as many as the innumerable grains of sand by the seashore.

Not talking about the kingdom of heaven.

  • The kingdom of heaven is equated as being the church.

Rewards in Heaven

  • Matt 5.12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
  • Luke 6.22-23 22 “Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man! 23 Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets.

The Father is in Heaven

  • Matt 5.16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
  • Matthew 6:1 “Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.
  • Matthew 6:9 Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
  • Matthew 7:11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
  • Matthew 10:32-33 So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven,  (33)  but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.
  • Matthew 16:17 And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.
  • Matt 18.10 See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven.

  • John 14:1-3 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.  (2)  In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?  (3)  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
  • John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
    • Father is in heaven
      • To get to the father, must go through Jesus.
    • Acts 4.12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
      • Names are not given in the atmosphere or in space. It must be from God’s Dwelling Place or on Earth.
    • Acts 7.55-56 55 But he, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. 56 And he said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.”
    • Acts 17.24 The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man,
    • Rom 1.18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.
    • Ephesians 3:14-15 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father,  (15)  from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named,
    • Heb 9.24 For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf.
    • Heb 12. 22-23 But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, 23 and to the assembly[a] of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,
    • Heb 12.25-27 25 See that you do not refuse him who is speaking. For if they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape if we reject him who warns from heaven. 26 At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” 27 This phrase, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of things that are shaken—that is, things that have been made—in order that the things that cannot be shaken may remain.
    • 1 Peter 3:21-22 Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,  (22)  who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers having been subjected to him.

God’s Will Done in Heaven

  • Matthew 6:10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 
  • Matt 11.25 At that time Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children;

Treasures in Heaven

  • Matthew 6:20  but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 
  • Matt 19. 20-22 20 The young man said to him, “All these I have kept. What do I still lack?” 21 Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” 22 When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
  • Mark 10.21 And Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “You lack one thing: go, sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”
  • Luke 12.33 Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys.
  • Luke 18.22 When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”
  • Colossians 3:1-2 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.  (2)  Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.
  • 1 Pet 1.4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you,

Exalted to Heaven

  • Matt 11.23 And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You will be brought down to Hades. For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.
  • Luke 10.15 And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You shall be brought down to Hades.
  • Heb 7.26 For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens.

Signs from Heaven

  • Matt 16.11 And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to test him they asked him to show them a sign from heaven.
  • Mark 8.11 The Pharisees came and began to argue with him, seeking from him a sign from heaven to test him.
  • Luke 11.15-17 15 But some of them said, “He casts out demons by Beelzebul, the prince of demons,” 16 while others, to test him, kept seeking from him a sign from heaven. 17 But he, knowing their thoughts, said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and a divided household falls.

Restrictions / Liberties in Heaven

  • Matthew 18:17-19  If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven

Place of Origin

  • Matt 21.25 The baptism of John, from where did it come? From heaven or from man?” And they discussed it among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say to us, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’
  • Mark 11:30-32 Was the baptism of John from heaven or from man? Answer me.”  (31)  And they discussed it with one another, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’  (32)  But shall we say, ‘From man’?”—they were afraid of the people, for they all held that John really was a prophet.

Angels in Heaven

  • 2 Thess 1.7 and to grant relief to you who are afflicted as well as to us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels

God’s Throne is There

  • Matt 5.34 But I say to you, Do not take an oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God,
  • Matt 23.22 And whoever swears by heaven swears by the throne of God and by him who sits upon it.
    • James 5.12 But above all, my brothers, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation.
  • Acts 7.49 Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. What kind of house will you build for me, says the Lord, or what is the place of my rest?

Righteous Taken to Heaven

  • Matthew 25:31-46 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne.  (32)  Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.  (33)  And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left.  (34)  Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.  (35)  For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,  (36)  I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’  (37)  Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink?  (38)  And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you?  (39)  And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’  (40)  And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’  (41)  “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.  (42)  For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink,  (43)  I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’  (44)  Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’  (45)  Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’  (46)  And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.
    • The King (34) says “Come”
      • The King is in heaven; Jesus is in heaven.
    • The righteous have eternal life
    • The righteous are in heaven with Jesus
    • Therefore, Heaven is the place of eternal life.

Authority in Heaven

  • Matt 28.18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
  • Eph 1. 9-10 9 making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ (10) as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.
  • Ephesians 3:14-15 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father,  (15)  from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named,
  • Eph 6.9 Masters, do the same to them, and stop your threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no partiality with him.
  • Phil 2.10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
  • Col 1.16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.
  • Col 1.20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.
  • 4.1 Masters, treat your bondservants justly and fairly, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven.
  • Heb 8.1 Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven,

Looking up to Heaven

  • Mark 6.41 And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing and broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the people. And he divided the two fish among them all.
    • Heaven is where God is
      • Jesus was looking up toward his father when he prayed.
    • Luke 9.16 And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing over them. Then he broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd.
      • He looked upward to the source of all blessings, God, who is in heaven
    • Acts 7.55-56 55 But he, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. 56 And he said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.”

Jesus is in Heaven

  • Mark 16.19 So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.
  • John 3.31 He who comes from above is above all. He who is of the earth belongs to the earth and speaks in an earthly way. He who comes from heaven is above all.
  • John 6.32-34 32 Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” 34 They said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.”
  • John 6.38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me.
  • Jobn 6.49-51 49 Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. 50 This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”

Fire from Heaven

Names Written in Heaven

Joy in Heaven

  • Luke 15.7 Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.

Sin Against Heaven

  • Luke 15.18 I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you.
    • Luke 15.21 And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’

Peace in Heaven

  • Luke 19.38 saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

Ascend to Heaven / Descend from Heaven

  • John 3.13 No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man.
  • John 3.31 He who comes from above is above all. He who is of the earth belongs to the earth and speaks in an earthly way. He who comes from heaven is above all.
  • John 6.32-34 32 Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” 34 They said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.”

  • Eph 4.10 He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.)
  • 1 Thess 4.16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.
  • 2 Thess 1.7 and to grant relief to you who are afflicted as well as to us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels
  • 1 Pet 1.12 It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look.

Eternal Life in Heaven

  • John 3:36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
    • To use this verse, it should be connected with heaven being a place of eternal life.
  • John 5:28-29 Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice  (29)  and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.
  • 2 Cor 5.1-2 For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.  (2) For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling,
  • 1.5 because of the hope laid up for you in heaven. Of this you have heard before in the word of the truth, the gospel,

Wrath from Heaven

  • Rom 1.18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.

So-Called “gods” in Heaven

  • 1 Corinthians 8:4-6 Therefore, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that “an idol has no real existence,” and that “there is no God but one.”  (5)  For although there may be so-called gods in heaven or on earth—as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords”—  (6)  yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.

Third Heaven

  • 2 Cor 12.2 I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows.

Citizenship in Heaven

  • Philippians 3:20 But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,

Luke 15.7  Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.

Luke 15.18  I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you.

  • Luke 15.21 And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’

Luke 18.22  When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”

Luke 19.38  saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

John 3.13  No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man.

John 3.31  He who comes from above is above all. He who is of the earth belongs to the earth and speaks in an earthly way. He who comes from heaven is above all.

John 3:36    Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.

  • To use this verse, it should be connected with heaven being a place of eternal life.

John 5:28-29    Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice  (29)  and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.

John 6.32-34  32 Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” 34 They said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.”

John 6.38  For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me.

Jobn 6.49-51  49 Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. 50 This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”

John 6.58  This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like the bread the fathers ate, and died. Whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.”

Acts 2.34  For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says, “‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand,

Acts 3.20-21  20 that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, 21 whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets long ago.

Acts 4.12  And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

  • Names are not given in the atmosphere or in space. It must be from God’s Dwelling Place or on Earth.

Acts 7.49  Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. What kind of house will you build for me, says the Lord, or what is the place of my rest?

Acts 7.55-56  55 But he, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. 56 And he said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.”

Acts 17.24  The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man,

Rom 1.18    For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.

Rom 10.5-7  5 For Moses writes about the righteousness that is based on the law, that the person who does the commandments shall live by them. 6 But the righteousness based on faith says, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 “or ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).

For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.  (53)  For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality.  (54)  When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”

2 Cor 5.1-2  For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.  (2) For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling,

For if they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape if we reject him who warns from heaven. 26 At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” 27 This phrase, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of things that are shaken—that is, things that have been made—in order that the things that cannot be shaken may remain.

1 Peter 3:21-22    Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,  (22)  who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers having been subjected to him.

2 Pet 1.18  we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain
