Blessed are the…

Pure in Heart

What does God look like? Is it possible to see him? Jesus tells everyone that seeing God is more than just a possibility, but a certainty. There is a group of people who will enjoy the happiness and fulfillment of the experience. Can you be one of them?

INTRO

In Matthew 5 Jesus says, Matthew 5:8  “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

This is a promise of Jesus. And none of his promises have ever failed. So, someone will see God in all his holiness, his sinlessness, his glory, his big-ness, his power, his gentleness. They will see it all.

And this sighting will fill them with a happiness and fulfillment that so many choose to not have.

Anyone can have this joy and contentment. But it will not come by accident. It comes only with deliberate decisions and concentration on the goal.

Jesus says that only those with a pure heart will see God.

So, what is a pure heart? Jesus used a Greek word that has several meanings. It can mean pure like a vine, pruned of all that prohibits bearing fruit. It is a heart that is free from evil desires. It’s blameless. Think of innocence. It is a heart not mixed with anything from this world. It is an unstained heart. It has no guilt. Think of how clean the incubator is that a newborn baby is placed in. It is SANITIZED. Pure.

This heart does not create evil thoughts. Anger is absent. Murder is not considered, Lust is ludicrous. Jesus said Mark 7:20-23  And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him.  (21)  For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery,  (22)  coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness.  (23)  All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”  Without deliberate changes, the person with these in their heart will not see God. Ever!

Here is the principle. Sin creates a “fog”, or a “cloud” in the heart so thick that it prevents anyone from seeing God. Furthermore, Sin separates mankind from God. Isa wrote, “Isaiah 59:1-2  Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear;  (2)  but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.”

So, how can you come to see God? How can you get that peace and fulfillment? Simple. You must become clean. Clorox clean. You must wash all your sins away.

Even the great apostle Paul was told the same thing. Paul was already believing in Jesus and was anxious to repent of all his evil. Paul recounts what the preacher told him in Acts 22. “Acts 22:16  And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name.’”

Suddenly, immediately, your heart will be pure. ALL the sin and ALL the evil has been cleaned from your heart. Peter wrote, “1 Peter 3:21  Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to god for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,” God gives you that clean-up heart. The heart that is capable of seeing God.

After being cleaned up, we must work with deliberate diligence to stay clean. To keep sin out of our hearts. And that is quite possible. John wrote, “1 John 1:7-9  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.  (8)  If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.  (9)  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

You need to do several other things to beat sin and keep your heart clean. They are far too numerous and varied to talk about in this video.
