I Never Knew You

If I ask you who’s in heaven or who is in hell, could you give me a person? Like Hitler? He’s in hell, right? Oh, sure. He, of course Hitler’s in hell. Maybe we think of our dear sweet grandma. She’s in heaven. Of course she’s in heaven, right? We, we, we have an idea of who would be in heaven and who would be in hell.

But are we right?

You know, Jesus once said that there were some people who were very religious who claimed him as Lord, who did some amazing things. And he said, I don’t know you.

We’re going to consider what Jesus said about who is in heaven and who is in hell, and the results might surprise us.

INTRO

You know, you may have known someone that on their job they were doing really well what they thought they were supposed to be doing. But when the boss came in, he looked at him and said, you know, you’re fired. And they said why? We’ve been working hard. And he’s basically he said, because you weren’t doing what I wanted you to do.

You know, just because you’re doing something doesn’t mean you’re doing the right thing.

In Matthew Chapter 7:21-23 we see Jesus say “Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord will enter the Kingdom of heaven….” In fact, he would go on to say that there would be people that would claim that they had prophesied in his name, cast out demons, done many great things, but he said, “I won’t know you.”

You know, in this text we see that there are people who who make the claim that they follow Jesus. But the truth of the matter is they didn’t do the will of the Father.

What does it mean to do the will of the Father that’s in heaven? Are we doing exactly what God wants us to do or are we doing what we think we should do?

Doing the will of the Father is not doing what I think. It’s not doing what my preacher says, not what why religion says I should do, but or what the religious manual says I should do. It’s doing the will of the Father.

You know, there are many people who are professors who are not possessors. People who make the claim.

You know, it’s interesting here. Jesus says many will say Lord, Lord, almost as if he’s emphasizing it, that they really mean it. They, they, they claim that he’s Lord. You know, these are not insincere professors. There are people who think that they are doing the will of the Father and they actually have actions that you would think would go along with it.

But it’s not about just doing something. It’s about doing the right thing. Those who did the will of my Father who is in heaven.

And that’s the important part of understanding who exactly is going to find favor with the Lord. Those who did the will of the Father. When those who didn’t do the will of the Father, it didn’t matter what they did because they weren’t in the Father’s will. It didn’t, it didn’t work.

It’s not just about action. It’s about the right action.

You can have all kinds of claims to fame, but if you never did the will of the Father, you won’t make it into His Kingdom. You won’t be part of His inheritance.

That’s why it’s so important that we make sure that we’re doing what God has said. That my faith is real and not superficial. That I’m making sure that what I do aligns with God’s will.

So we must ask ourselves that question, have I done what He wants us to do or have I done what I thought He wants us to do?

You know that’s the problem, right? We’re satisfying ourselves. But it doesn’t matter how self-satisfying we are if we haven’t satisfied our boss, our Lord. We can claim Him as Lord, but if we don’t follow His will, we’re not doing exactly what He wants us to do.

And that’s the scary thought there. Is that there are many people on the Day of Judgment who will be very sure of their destination.

You know, I always tell people, you know, we don’t know. We can’t judge another person. We’re not the judge of anyone. I don’t know who’s going to be in heaven. I don’t know who’s going to be in hell.

But I do know that I want to go to heaven. And there are people that I want to go to hell. I want you to go to heaven. I don’t want you to go to hell. And the only thing that I can tell you to do is to make sure that you’re doing the will of the Father.

Not because it’s what I told you to do. But it’s because it’s what Jesus told you to do.   It’s because I have done the will of the Father.

And to do that, we have to make sure that we are looking to His will and to His word, not what we think it says, but what it truly says.
