Lessons from the Eclipse

I live in Prescott, AR. It was in the path of a total eclipse. The sun was blotted out completely by the moon creating this immense shadow that is fast moving across the earth.

What can be learned from an eclipse?

I did an internet search for the top questions relating to this particular eclipse. Here is what was found:

What day is the solar eclipse? The scientists calculated in advance it would happen on April 8.

What is an eclipse?  Specifically a solar eclipse is when the moon passes between the sun and the Earth.

Where and when could I have viewed it? The scientist accurately predicted the path would be 115 miles wide going from Texas to Maine. The sun went dark in the afternoon through parts of 15 states.

How long will the eclipse last? They say it began along Mexico’s Pacific Coast at 11:07 a.m. local time and exit the continent at 5:16 p.m. local time from Newfoundland, Canada.

Here in Prescott, they predicted the eclipse would begin at 12:30:14 local time. The total eclipse was expected to begin at 1:49:03 and was to last for 1 minute and 26 seconds.

This is a lot of exact science.

But how can they come up with so many exact figures? If all of nature began with a cataclysmic explosion BILLIONS of years ago, how did it come to be so regular? How can an unpredictable, unorganized blast create a universe that is so predictable and so well-organized?

The fact is: It can’t.

God is the only explanation. He alone has the sheer power and knowledge of where place our sun so it is stable. And to know exactly what distance Earth needs to be from the sun so it can rotate at the correct speed to warm us perfectly. And to know how to light the night sky with the perfect size moon and the power to rotate it independently around the earth. And only God can set all three of these celestial bodies in place, and in motion so precise that scientists can accurately predict the rare occurrence down to the second well into the future.

But why would God do this? Why did he create our solar system? Why did he create all the other stars and moons? Why did God create such a beautiful planet?

He tells us. “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.  (19)  For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them.  (20)  For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.”

And if he can do such great things, the Bible would have been easy for him to provide to us. Its accuracy has been proven many times over the years in all true versions.  God recorded Paul’s statement to Timothy, “ 2 Timothy 3:14-17  But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it  (15)  and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.  (16)  All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,  (17)  that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

If God can create with absolute precision a solar eclipse, and repeat it in various places on earth in a predictable pattern, then you can depend on what he as provided for us. The Bible.

Ingest it frequently by any method needed. Read it. Listen to it. Contemplate it.
